SiN: Game Dev

Creative Director / Core Design

Character Design Direction

At Ritual, I creatively directed character design to establish the iconic look and attitude of SiN, balancing realism with exaggerated style. We didn’t hold back on building characters which looked like they were falling off the screen from a twisted anime themed fever-dream.

These characters became central to the game’s cult-classic identity.

Textures

On the project, I led environmental visual direction and the creation of textures that defined the gritty, stylized SiN universe. The environments reinforced narrative tone for our FPS gameplay. Learning to make gaming textures was a passion on the game, and I enjoyed working with level designers in this process.

Cinematic Direction

We outsourced our cinematics, but I directed the opening cinematic which set the tone for the game in a very stylized way. I also co-directed the game’s outro, which ensured a strong narrative framing for the experience. The outro helped establish character motivation and relationship between Blade and Elexis, and perfect at setting a memorable clifthanger.

With SiN, I helped build one of the most memorable cult classics in the FPS genre by leading and contributing across multiple key art teams. My role focused on concept direction and environmental visual design, shaping the stylized, edgy look that defined the universe.

Working side by side with exceptional talent, I led from the trenches to ensure consistency, clarity, and attitude across the game’s visuals. The result was a distinctive world that resonated with players and critics alike, reinforcing Ritual’s reputation as an art-driven studio capable of creating lasting, original experiences.

The visuals in this game were possible because of the great art talents of B. Anderson, M. Hadwin, J. Mueller, B. Riza, M. Washburn, GlyphX (Branding and Cinematics) and J. Thomas (Concept Artist). It was an honor to lead them.
